Monsters of Rock Update – January 2010

Happy 2010 to all you MOR fans out there. It’s been a while since I’ve blogged. You know how it is around this time of year and the band took a much needed break in December. We hope you had a great holiday season and had the chance to reconnect with family as we did.

August Update

Well, clearly I haven’t been much good at keeping ya’ll updated. I suppose it’s because we’ve been quite busy. We’ve played quite a few shows over the past couple of months and finally are getting a chance to catch our breath.

No doubt the biggest event was placing second at the Ultimate Music Challenge at the Viejas DreamCatcher Lounge. The prize was $8,000 which is tad bit more than we’d make at any other gig. The competition was really amazing and the DreamCatcher was at maximum capacity on the night of the finals. Hats off to Rolling the Stones who placed first and took home $20,000!

May Update

Last weekend was more good times at the “Ho” (Second Wind Navajo). It was a small crowd on Friday, but we cut loose and had a blast. I guess everyone was resting up for Saturday as it was pretty packed all night. Our friends Leon and Mike were celebrating their birthday. Also Tony and Alli recently got engaged, so congratulations to you two kids. Spike from Children of the Grave made an appearance and played a couple of Black Sabbath songs on bass.

On 4/27/09 we competed in the Ultimate Music Challenge at Viejas. For a listing of the bands check out this page of our blog or www.ultimatemusicchallenge.com. We were fortunate enough to advance to the semi final round thanks to the great fan support. I never got the judges scores, but I have heard it was very close and fans probably were the deciding factor, so THANK YOU! For a review of the performance head over to the UMC blog at http://ultimatemusicchallenge3.wordpress.com/2009/04/27/week-2-april-26/ . Lots of people chime in with comments and it’s good reading.

Ultimate Music Challenge 3 – Week 1

First off, they’ve not been too good about updating their website, so here’s the link with the best info http://ultimatemusicchallenge3.wordpress.com/

Last night Sergio and I went to check out week one of the competition. The lineup was:

Slang – http://www.myspace.com/timetogetrocked

Rolling the Stones – http://www.rollingthestones.net

Arrowhead – http://www.arrowheadrocks.com

Paradise – http://www.paradise-lsr.com

Radio Star – http://www.radiostarrocks.com

Rolling the Stones was the clear winner. They had it all going on; costumes, stage presence, talent and crowd response.

This week Monsters of Rock is up against:

The Sofa Kings – http://www.myspace.com/thesofakingssd
Generator – I couldn’t find a website
The Clay Colton Band – http://www.claycolton.com/
Dazed and Confused – http://www.dazedandconfusedband.com/

Here’s hoping you all will come out and help get us through round one.

April Update

On 3-28-09 we headed up to Orange County and sat in for a couple of songs with Damage Inc at the Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet. This is a really cool venue! There was a nice big stage, great sound system and thousands of people. We will be playing there on 5-16-09. Thanks to Damage Inc for hooking us up!

We also booked a gig in June at 4th & B downtown San Diego. We’re all pretty stoked to be playing there.

For now we are still gearing up for the UMC. We ask, plead and beg for YOU TO BE THERE!

March Update

On 2/13/09 we had a great show at Canes. As usual, Damage Inc and Atomic Punks were a lot of fun to hang out with and rocked the house. The place was pretty packed – thanks to those of you who were able to come!

So, this DJ from Palomar College caught our show at Cane’s and invited us in for an interview. The show is called “Anything Goes with The Big J.D.”. You can check out his MySpace profile at http://www.myspace.com/kksmanythinggoes . It’s scheduled for this Saturday, March 21st from 1:00- 2:00pm. It will be simulcast on Cox Digital Cable Channel 957 and online at http://www.palomar.edu/kksm/live.html

This summer we’ll be playing at a couple of new venues, Riley’s Music Lounge and 710 Beach Club. You can get the gig details at http://monstersofrockband.com/gig-calendar/.

We’ve decided once again the enter the Ultimate Music Challenge at Viejas Casino. Last year we did quite well taking third place. With the help of lots of screaming fans perhaps we can do it again. The competition runs April 19th through June 28th.

Hopefully you’ve noticed the share and subscribe buttons added to the site. This makes it easy to add a bookmark, email an article or add to your favorite feed reader.

Until next time, rock on. Oh, and Happy St. Patty’s Day!
